Cyprus is split between the Greek south and the Turkish north, and visiting both is genuinely interesting — they're different countries with different currencies, different cultures and a border that only opened to tourists in 2003. The south has Paphos (UNESCO), the Akamas peninsula and good beach infrastructure. The north has Famagusta, one of the most striking examples of a city frozen in time, and a more rawly authentic feel. Aphrodite is allegedly from here.
